Installing a Bath Panel Onto Your Bath

By James Chapman

The majority of modern baths require a bath panel to hide away the bath construction below which is not as beautifully finished as the top of the bath. There are some exceptions to this however, as roll top baths or floor standing baths will not require a bath panel, as they are designed to be completely visible in the bathroom once installed. The range of bath panels is really endless so that you can find one that will suit your bathroom décor and design. Another option to buying a bath panel is to make one yourself which will allow you to create a panel that fits your existing bathroom style perfectly.

The range of sizes and finishes of panels varies a lot so you can install one that suits your budget as well as your bathroom. When installing ready-made panels, simply position them vertically to your bath, using a spirit level to ensure you have it at the perfect angle. Once in position, mark a line on the floor along the bottom of the bath panels that you are installing. In most cases, you will be installing more than one bath panel, as usually an end panel is usually required. This is not always the case however, as some baths may run the width of the bathroom.

The end panel will fit behind the main front panel at the corner joint. Remove the panels out of their position that you intend to install them in, and draw another line around 3mm inside the first line that you have drawn. You will then need to install the battens for your panels to the inside of the second line. It is recommended that you use three battens for the front panel and two for the end panel so that the panels are firmly secured.

For the battens to take the turned-in edge of the panels, you will need to create a rebate. This can be done easily by placing a piece of packing which is the same depth as the flange beneath each batten. You can then place the bath panels back in the desired place and screw them to the battens using a 4mm drill bit.

Bath panels can be used as a way to complement your bathroom style perfectly and give it a sense of sleek style and coordination. Find one that suits your bathroom beautifully as well as complement your bath and fitting it perfectly.
